Improved Charity Searches

To help you find the information you are looking for, quickly and easily, we recently launched enhancements to our charity search capabilities. We hope that these search refinements will help make your research experience all the more effective.

What's new:

  • Search by search terms such as "disaster-relief "or "cancer". (You can still search by organization name.)
  • Narrow your search by typing multiple search terms such as geographic location to enhance your search results.
  • Reviewed charities feature the Meets Standards seal, a clear indicator of the organization's commitment to accountability and transparency.

Tips to maximize your search:

  1.  Type the organization's name in the search box with quotation marks. Example: "American Cancer Society" will put American Cancer Society at the top of your results.
  2. Be explicit and focused in your search. Specific words will often help refine your search and provide more valuable results than general search terms. Example:  Breast cancer will return a more relevant search result than just cancer.
  3. Typing a single term such as children will usually return more organizations than you want. Try typing multiple words in the search box by adding search terms such as a specific geographic region. However, don't use too many search terms. It may limit your search more than necessary.
  4. Search terms are not case-sensitive.
  5. Punctuations are generally ignored.

Organizations are listed in the search results in order of relevance. These new enhancements have eliminated the need for category listings which is no longer featured on the charity search page.
