We are committed to relieving isolation and loneliness while promoting the well-being and independence of older adults in the Twin Cities Metro Area.
According to the Minnesota Department of Human Services, 57,000 people over the age of 65 currently live alone in the Twin Cities. Many of these people are at risk of becoming socially and emotionally isolated, and in danger of losing their independence. Many spend every day alone, forgotten and tucked away by a rapidly growing society whose attention span grows shorter and shorter.
We have cell phones, iPods, satellite TVs, computers, and the Internet. Yet we forget about the individuals who are alone in the world and with whom no one keeps in touch.
In 2011, the large baby boomer generation begins turning 65, and over the next 20 years, Minnesota’s older population will double. The number over age 85 will nearly triple. This is why Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly needs your help to continue making a difference.
We are an organization that relies on volunteers, and we are committed to offering people of goodwill the opportunity to join the older people we serve in friendship and celebration of life.
