CHARITY RESPONSE TO REVIEW: Children’s Cancer Research Fund (CCRF) is a leading, national, non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for childhood cancer by providing funds for research and training for the prevention, treatment and cure of childhood cancer. We also support quality-of-life programs for pediatric cancer patients and their families, as well as follow-up medical care, especially tailored to the needs of childhood cancer survivors. Since 1981, CCRF has raised $82.3 million in support of its mission. The funds we provide enable the University of Minnesota Cancer Center, a leading pediatric cancer research center, to continue its pioneering research efforts in the prevention, diagnoses, treatment and cure of childhood cancers. The impact of the cutting edge research at the University of Minnesota Cancer Center is phenomenal. In 1999, they performed the first ever double umbilical cord blood transplant to treat pediatric leukemia. This and other discoveries are now standards of care across the country. CCRF also supports a non-medical, in-hospital program, Care Partners. Volunteers have provided support to 2500 families and children as they undergo cancer treatment.
Currently, 80% of children diagnosed with cancer will survive. CCRF is especially dedicated to funding research to find new treatments for the 20% of whom conventional treatments fail. It is through our direct response program and website that we educate donors from around the country of our important mission. Donors are able to read stories of courageous pediatric cancer patients, learn about cutting-edge research and understand how to relate to friends or family undergoing cancer treatment. With the support of our donors, we carry on with our mission for a cancer free world. For more information, please visit www.childrenscancer.org or call (888) 422-7348
In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2006, an in-kind gift of $1,974,677 in print advertising space that was to be dedicated to delivering an education message was inadvertently used for fundraising activities. The effect of this placement lowered our program service ratio from 70.4% to 62.3%. | | | NON-CASH DONATIONS
