    CHARITY RESPONSE TO REVIEW:
Basic Needs Inc. Of South Washington County registered with the Charity Review Council, as we want the community to know Stone Soup Thrift Shop is here, and to thank them for their support. We are blessed with the generous support of volunteers, donated goods and funding. Stone Soup is growing and more customers are finding the store. During 2007: Stone Soup provided goods worth $30,334 to 385 children, 413 adults, churches and community organizations at no cost. Households with limited income shop at our store, and benefit from the fine quality of the goods they purchase at very low prices. During 2007: Sales were $ 96,215. During 2007: 75 persons volunteered 5,675 hours of time. Of these individuals 15 were placed with the store for training and work experience. (From 1998 through 2007, 512 persons volunteered 25,611 hours of time.) Also in 2007 we served 104 youth and adults who worked 2,992 hours in the court ordered Community Services program. (From 1998 through 2007, 1,032 community service worked 24,735 hours of time.) We invite all interested individuals to utilize our rewarding volunteer opportunity. The store is committed to recycling and seeks new ways to process damaged or unsold items. (From 2004 thru 2007, 8,333 large bags of clothing were recycled. Unusable leather goods and shoes weighing 3,133 lbs. were reprocessed by a local recycling company for use in absorbents for oil spills.)
