CHARITY RESPONSE TO REVIEW: Founded in 1995, the African American AIDS Task Force (AAATF) was formally incorporated as a 501 (c) (3) organization the same year. AAATF was founded by African American community members who were concerned with the disproportionate impact of HIV/AIDS on African American people living in Minnesota. The intent was to increase the availability of culturally specific service providers to address the needs of African American people living with or at risk of HIV infection, and to empower communities to help themselves.
The mission of the AAATF is to provide culturally specific HIV prevention, education and services to people who are living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS.
Our overall goals are to:
• Take a holistic approach to educating communities about HIV/AIDS
• Encourage wellness in an effort to improve the quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS
• Work proactively to dispel myths associated with HIV/AIDS in an effort to minimize fear and stigma
AAATF is proud to meet all standards of the Charities Review Council and looks forward to demonstrating its accountability to the people we serve, the community, and the donors and volunteers who commit their time and resources to help us achieve our mission. We invite you to learn more about AAATF by visiting us at www.aaatf.org. |
