CHARITY RESPONSE TO REVIEW: The Waldorf School is a private, non-profit organization that is unique in its forms of governance and administration. Waldorf schools are typically “self-administered” and seek to involve teaching staff in the administration and governance of the school. We believe that educators themselves are best able to understand both the needs of the children and the forms that will best support the education of the children. In addition Waldorf schools strive to model collaborative leadership and to explore forms of governance that will meet the current and future needs of society. Our organizational structure is a reflection of the values we seek to embody. The organizational structure of our school contains a number of checks and balances including a non-hierarchical staff structure, the use of consensus decision-making, an extensive committee structure and the rotation of membership on the Board and committees. Our choice to include three paid staff members on our Board is due to our belief that the health of our organization as well as our ability to fulfill our mission is dependent on the contributions of those who are involved in the daily work of the school. | | | |
