CHARITY RESPONSE TO REVIEW: People Serving People, Inc. is a major provider of emergency housing to homeless children and their families. Our building can provide up to 99 families with emergency housing nightly, and has 10 units of permanent supportive housing. Two-thirds of our guests are children; the average age of a person staying at PSP is 7.
In addition to providing housing, PSP has a broad range of programs and services designed to address adult barriers to housing and employment, and to address the educational, emotional and recreational needs of children and families.
The 2008 expenses for our five major programs were: Emergency Housing - $3,189,726; Supportive Housing - $162,006; Workforce Development - $218,719; Advocacy Programs - $223,830; Children's Services - $791,666. These programs are provided by PSP, Inc., and are funded through donations and grants received by PSP Charities.
The 2000 renovation of PSP’s facility was paid in part through bonds through the City of Minneapolis. Excess revenue after expenses is placed in a long-term debt reduction fund in preparation for the pay-off of those bonds, which are due in 2020.
