CHARITY RESPONSE TO REVIEW: The Saint Paul Area Council of Churches is a 100 year old non-proselytizing ecumenical organization serving 700 congregations in the East Metro. It exists to transform lives, build community, and increase the capacity of congregations to serve the community through ecumenical and interfaith action to overcome poverty, promote peace, and dismantle racism and other barriers that divide our community. The Council has six program areas that work on its mission: the Department of Indian Work; Congregations in Community; Project Home (that provides housing for homeless families in Ramsey County); Project SPIRIT/Freedom School (a year-round after school and summer school program for African American students); the Minnesota Collaborative Anti-Racism Initiative; and various ecumenical and interfaith projects and events.
