Accomplishments
During our last fiscal year we served 272 seniors and caregivers of seniors. They attended one or more of your social events or exercise classes, received nursing services, had a volunteer visitor or a respite volunteer, received transportation or assistance accessing resources in the community. To review a five-year comparison of the statistics in these and more areas of service, see the SAPAS Annual Report for 2012-13. It is on our website at www.SAPASeniors.org. One new focus of special note: through our review of data we found we were serving relatively few seniors in the north end of the SAPAS service area and made a special effort to identify seniors in Lauderdale by working more closely with the municipal staff there, publicizing and holding program events/exercise classes within those city limits and transporting seniors there to appointments and events outside their area.
Current Goals
Based on last years’ demographic findings and to reach and serve more seniors and caregivers in our service area, SAPAS will make a concentrated effort to build its volunteer base, provide broader resources with additional attention to those needed by younger seniors as they transition to Medicare and Social Security, and make a special effort to address the members of all diverse groups in our service area. In addition, the Board will initiate a professional needs assessment of area seniors and caregivers to ensure SAPAS is on target as it plans for and moves into the future.
