Accomplishments
1. To gather together a group of young women in a safe and sharing environment: Beginning with each choir's bonding retreat in September, 134 young women in grades 1-12 from 27 schools and 9 cities from southeastern Minnesota participated in Bella Voce, Bella Fiore, and The Bellettes this season. 2. To expose young women to music repertoire for treble voices: All music performed was arranged specifically for treble voicing and represented a wide variety of genres ranging from classical to contemporary. Bella Fiore participated in a regional choral festival with 10 other treble choirs, led by world-renowned composer Stephen Hatfield. 3. To demand participation at the highest level of musical artistry: All music was performed by memory with an engaging performance style that was received with acclaim represented by positive feedback, standing ovations, and solid financial support from donors. 4. To share confidently and convincingly this musical and social experience through formal public performance: 5 independent choral concerts and 3 collaborative performances were completed. Approximately 2,483 adult and 1,379 individuals experienced the offerings of Sing Out Loud during the year, including 138 youth performers. 5. To mentor student leaders: Two students participated actively on the Board of Directors, three students were mentored as choir section leaders; and students were mentored as choral conductor and accompanist. 6. To increase awareness of social cause via music: spring rehearsal programming and concert series included presentations from students and representatives from Rochester Victims Services about the media's portrayal of women and the connection with self-esteem and domestic victimization. 7. To participate in artistic collaboration with other arts organizations: Three collaborative performances, "JOY!" were presented with Minnesota Youth Ballet Theatre (dance) in December 2013, engaging several groups from southeastern Minnesota 8. Expand Sing Out Loud’s program to include young singers in grades 1-5: "The Bellettes!" choir was started, with 42 members participating in 8 rehearsals in spring semester, and well-received (standing ovation) performances in May 2014.
