In the past year, Semcac helped thousands of southeastern Minnesota residents in their time of need. 6,907 households received energy assistance to ease the burden of heating expenses. 199 households received energy-related repairs, such as furnace replacement. 14 homes and 51 rental units were rehabilitated. One new affordable housing complex with 6 units was constructed. 261,583 hot, nutritious meals were served to seniors. 98,320 meals were delivered to homebound seniors. 396 children received quality learning and care via Head Start. 52 children received special education and support services. 1,653 unduplicated patients visited the Semcac Family Planning Clinic for medical exams and other family planning services. 347 women were screened for cervical cancer. 115 households received assistance with rent or mortgage to obtain their housing. 18 homeless households found shelter and case management at Semcac Freeborn County Homeless Shelter. 1,338 households made visits to the four Semcac food shelves, including 137 emergency visits. 658 households received donated articles such as blankets or clothes. 769 households received holiday gifts for their children & 64 households were provided with school supplies.
Current Goals
In addition to continuing to help those in need and working to strengthen communities overall, we have created a strategic plan that hones in on specific areas, within each department, in order to better serve the people in the most effective manner while incorporating best practices. Some examples of goals we are working towards include: diversify our services, invest in technology in order to keep abreast of communication needs, establish integrated data systems in order to remain as efficient as possible, maintain and grow current relationships with other nonprofit organizations and increase partnerships to better serve clients, educate staff regularly so they are continually resourceful for those who need our services, enhance client independence by continuing program services.
