Kids Against Hunger, Inc.
The mission of Kids Against Hunger, a humanitarian food-aid organization, is to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the USA and to feed starving children throughout the world.
Kids Against Hunger's approach to achieving its goal - the eradication of world hunger - includes the packaging of a highly nutritious, vitamin-fortified rice-soy casserole by volunteers at numerous locations within the USA and Canada, and the distribution of those meals to starving children and their families in over 60 countries through partnerships with humanitarian organizations worldwide. In 2011 alone, volunteers at Kids Against Hunger’s food packaging centers across the USA packaged 40 million meals for children and their families around the world and around the corner.

In 2010, the number of Kids Against Hunger meals packaged increased by 102% compared with 2009. This was due in large part to the increase of support for our food aid efforts in Haiti after the devastating earthquake in January of 2010. We strengthened our relationship with the U.S. Navy's Project Handclasp for food distribution. Over 27 million meals were sent to Haiti as a result of the disaster - of which the U.S. Navy shipped a large portion. Our food has saved countless lives in 38 countries in 2010.
Throughout the year, we have seen quantifiable results in the children receiving our meals - with measurable improvements (backed up by testimonials from our feeding partners) to the children's physical and mental condition, a decrease of the visible signs of starvation (i.e. significant weight gain, shrinking belly, hair returning to its natural color), and overall health in as little as thirty days.
We also opened 25 new food packaging satellites in 2010 and had satellites operating in 26 U.S. states and Canada as of year-end 2010.
Last, but not least, our food packaging program continues to have a growing impact on the 154,400 volunteers nationwide who were involved in assembling the meals in 2010. Although it is difficult to quantify, engaging community volunteers as they assemble Kids Against Hunger's high-nutrition meals through a simple, manual packaging process has been invaluable in raising awareness of hunger issues while also bringing satisfaction and deep engagement to the volunteers who package the food.
Our main objective for 2011 is to provide 50 million Kids Against Hunger meals to starving children and families worldwide. To achieve that goal, we will need to increase revenue by at least 25% (via continued satellite growth, development efforts involving corporate and major donor campaigns, expansion of our direct mail campaign, and advancements in internal food packaging efforts). Our goal is to double the number of meals packaged at the Headquarters facility of Kids Against Hunger from four to eight million meals in 2011 by engaging 20,000 volunteers in the meal assembly process. On a national level, we are working towards opening 25 new food packaging satellites set up for a total of 90 locations and involving 200,000 volunteers nationwide. We will also continue to work towards eliminating the organization's debt to its Founder (the principal office building was purchased from the organization's Founder).

||Despite the current economic downturn, Kids Against Hunger has remained financially strong in 2010. Thanks to the support of its donor base and growing relationships with corporations, faith-based and civic groups, and individuals, Kids Against Hunger has been able to continue expanding its program services and to reach a growing number of people in need "around the world and around the corner".
The information included on Kids Against Hunger's financial statements reflects the activity of the Headquarters and its two food packaging Divisions only. All other Kids Against Hunger locations perform their own, separate financial reporting. Headquarters provides central services to those satellites, including ingredient purchasing and order fulfillment, supplier negotiations, feeding partner relationship-building, informational services, development support, new food packaging satellite prospecting, logistics services, and design of marketing and promotional materials. Most of these services are provided at cost or free to the satellites which results in additional overhead cost to Headquarters, but helps the satellites better fulfill their mission.
Kids Against Hunger operates based on a minimal staffing model to accomplish its mission of eliminating starvation. In 2010, Headquarters' ten staff members realized a total revenue of three million Dollars and 6.7 million meals packaged. In addition, the efforts of the organization's 85 volunteer-based satellites across the U.S. and Canada resulted in another 33.6 million meals. This means that the 40.3 million meals packaged and shipped by ALL Kids Against Hunger locations in 2010 (an estimated value of nine million Dollars) were produced with staff costs of less than eight percent of total revenue.
