Accomplishments
In fiscal year 2010 Headwaters awarded a total of $493,515 in 97 grants to nonprofit organizations working for social, racial, economic and environmental justice. Grants are made through the Social Change Fund, the Fund of the Sacred Circle, and Donor Advised Funds, with 432 individuals and institutions providing critical financial support for this work in FY2010. Over 400 grassroots organizers and activists participated in and benefitted from 19 training and educational activities offered through our Capacity Building Program last year. Five objectives guide that program: increasing organizational capacity, building connections across issues and communities, developing strong constituent leadership, advancing leadership of people of color and deepening skills for political analysis by individuals and organizations. Our Donor Education Program provided avenues for information, education and engagement to individuals interested in or currently supporting social justice work in the community. An integrated Communications Program ties our grantmaking, capacity building and donor education efforts to our website, quarterly electronic newsletters, and social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
