Accomplishments
We try to offer programs in as many dimensions of wellness as possible. SOCIAL: We offered social activites such as a variety of card and dice games as well as bingo, pool, snooker and Wii games. Special events such as Ice Cream Socials, monthly birthday parties, entertainment and volunteer recognitions were held. We are the local volunteer station for the Senior Companion Program. VOCATIONAL: Opportunities to serve on committees or the board of directors are available to members. Computer classes were held for those who need instruction on their use. PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL: We have a state-of-the-art gym with cardio and strength training equipment. Walking classes were held outdoors in a variety of parks, trails and areas in Fergus Falls. A beautiful planter was maintained in front of our center by members. We actively participate in recycling materials used at the Senior Center. INTELLECTUAL: Our Senior Center contains a library and reading machine for those with low vision. A discussion group was held on ageism using the report written by Robert Butler, and more. Brain Games were played using improvisation techniques and a Dakim Brain Fitness Computer. Paint, computer and group exercise classes were held. A variety of seminars were also conducted.
Current Goals
Our strategic plan for the current year focuses on building maintenance and improvements by painting the walls with a new, colorful look and moving away from institutional white. A grant for 100 gallons of Valspar paint will help us with this project. Another grant through the Lake Region Arts Council will help us paint a mural on on the exterior of the Senior Center depicting the fact that we are changing the way we age, along with creating a documentary with a local television station. A member and artist, along with her students, will paint a portable, interior mural depicting historical aspects of our town and area. Programming for enrichment and independence will continue as usual in the dimensions of wellness for our members.
