Accomplishments
The Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota provided seizure recognition and response training to 6,500 people in 2011. In addition, 600 people attended educational conferences and workshops. During 2011, the following communities received the Seizure Smart Communities designation: Bemidji, Fergus Falls, Hutchinson and Owatonna. In 2011, 263 children with epilepsy were engaged in the Shining Stars program and 100 children attended Camp Oz. In 2011, 705 people received services through our Information & Referral program. As a result of these programs - people in MN and ND were educated, connected and empowered. Education ends the stigma associated with epilepsy, people feeling connected eliviates the isolation associated with epilepsy and being empowered has given more than 500 people affected by epilepsy a voice and a sense of control.
Current Goals
Educate the community inorder to end the stigma and misperceptions that surround epilepsy and seizures. Connect people impacted by epilepsy to others and to resources in order to end the isolation that surrounds epilepsy. Empower people affected by epilepsy to assist them in taking action and "control" of their epilepsy.
