We began the year by completing a rescue merger of another organization that gave us a strategic platform in a new geography of the Twin Cities area. Additionally, we complete a second rescue merger by years end that added a more vertical integration of new but related services to our organization. We accomplished many of the goals and objectives of our Strategic Plan but both new acquisitions did put financial pressure on the organization to sustain them. All of this was done while also eliminating several programs in our service area in order to narrow our scope and more truly meet the Mission and Values of the organization. Because of the opportunities as well as pressures on the organization, the Board addressed and reevaluated our Mission, Values and Core Purpose. Our new focus became primarily mental and chemical health meaning a reduction in our senior social service programs and transportation. It also meant that we needed to do some internal development of our management team and two new positions were created within the organization to help us achieve and move forward in our goals. They included the development of a Chief Operating Officer and a Chief Development Officer.
Current Goals
We held the same four major Strategic Goals for the organization with several specific objectives under each in 2012 as stated above. This year however, after changes in our Mission and Core Purpose from 2011, we focused a big part of the year on our brand strategy. This included a name change for the organization from HSI to Canvas Health, a new website, and work on creating a new image and brand for the organization that reflected our Mission, Values and Core Purpose. This was a year in which major changes occurred for the organization that so far have been reflected back to us from our stakeholders as very positive.
