Mission “Teaching youth to succeed in all life’s races”
Teaching: We involve kids in mentoring relationships with positive role models from the community
Youth: We serve at-risk youth, ages 10 to 14.
To Succeed: We support youth-mentor pairs in run/bike training, adventure learning, goal setting, and volunteer service. We educate youth about healthy habits.
In All of Life’s Races: We provide the structure and support for healthy relationships and positive behaviors.

Accomplishments
We evaluated of activities of each of Bolder Option’s key stakeholder groups: youth, mentors, and parents. 167 youth matched between January 2010 and December 11.
Bolder Options achieved a 67% success rate, defined as mentor/mentee pairs who were matched in 2010 and successfully completed the one-year program in 2010.
After participation in the Bolder Options program, over 95% of youth indicated they had the tools they needed to be successful in life.
Over 95% of youth also reported the achievement of personal goals while participating in the
Bolder Options program.
When asked about relationships with their mentors, over 95% of youth reported positive
connections. Many youth (about 40%) continued to report connections with their mentors postgraduation.
The majority of youth (over 85%) reported having positive and supportive networks.
Furthermore, nearly 80% of youth reported engaging in healthy habits while participating in the Bolder Options program.
At graduation, more than 80% of youth reported confidence in their ability to resist peer pressure for skipping class and teasing another student.
Nearly 60% of youth reported participating in at least one volunteer activity.
Nearly 50% of youth participated in at least one 5K race and nearly 15% participated in at least
one bike event.
Youth reported positive attitudes and high levels of self-efficacy in reading, math, academic
success, and behaviors indicative of academic success.
More than 95% of youth reported satisfaction with the Bolder Options program.
